National Social Housing Manager
Retrofit & New Build Solar | United Kingdom
Competitive salary, annual bonus and company car or car allowance
Reporting To: Head of Housing
Location: Home-based in the UK, with regular national travel
Employment: Full-time, permanent
The Opportunity
Viridian Solar is the UK’s leading provider of integrated solar solutions for construction. With an established reputation in solar and housebuilding, and as part of the Marshalls PLC Group, we are entering an exciting new phase of growth across the social housing market.
We are looking for a commercially focused National Social Housing Manager to lead new business development with housing associations, local authorities, arm’s-length management organisations (ALMOs) and their delivery partners. The role will create and convert opportunities for roof-integrated solar and associated products within social housing maintenance and energy upgrade programs, as well as new-build affordable homes, taking projects from early engagement and specification through procurement, delivery and wider rollout.
What you will be doing
- Develop and deliver a national market and account plan focused on priority housing associations, local authorities, ALMOs and strategic delivery partners.
- Identify and qualify opportunities within planned maintenance, low energy retrofit and new-build housing programmes.
- Work closely with our sister company, Marley, to maximise group-level opportunities that also include the supply of roof tiles and roofing accessories.
- Build relationships with asset management, planned works, sustainability, development, procurement, technical and executive stakeholders.
- Position Viridian Solar solutions early within asset-investment plans, retrofit programmes and new-home design processes.
- Secure product specifications, approved-supplier status, framework opportunities, pilot projects and multi-site programmes.
- Lead customer presentations, bids, tenders and commercial proposals, coordinating technical, design and pricing input from internal teams.
- Develop effective delivery routes with main contractors, roofing contractors, solar installers, consultants and distribution partners.
- Manage opportunities from initial engagement through survey, design, technical approval, procurement, pilot delivery and wider rollout.
- Maintain an accurate CRM pipeline, account plans and forecasts, and provide market intelligence and regular performance updates.
What success looks like
- A growing, well-qualified national pipeline across re-roofing, retrofit solar and new-build social housing.
- New strategic relationships established with priority social landlords and delivery partners.
- Specifications, framework opportunities, tenders and commercial agreements secured with target accounts.
- Pilot projects converted into repeat, multi-site or multi-region programmes.
- Accurate CRM data, reliable forecasting and sustainable new-business revenue and margin growth.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven success in new-business sales, business development or strategic account management within social housing, construction products, roofing, renewables, retrofit or energy efficiency.
- A strong understanding of how social landlords plan and procure capital works, retrofit and new-development programmes.
- Experience of consultative or specification-led selling and managing complex, often lengthy sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders and delivery partners.
- The ability to engage credibly with asset management, procurement, development, sustainability, technical and executive decision-makers.
- Strong presentation, bid, tender, proposal and negotiation skills, with the ability to translate technical benefits into commercial and operational value.
- A proactive, self-motivated and target-driven approach, supported by disciplined CRM, pipeline management and forecasting.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly throughout the United Kingdom.
Useful Experience
An established network within housing associations, local authorities, ALMOs, consultants or social-housing contractors.
Knowledge of planned maintenance, roof-replacement, retrofit or decarbonisation programme delivery.
Experience of the affordable-housing new-build specification and procurement process.
Experience in solar, roofing systems, low-carbon technologies or building-envelope products.
What We Offer
- 26 days paid leave, rising to 28 days after two years’ service, plus public holidays
- Generous company pension scheme: 3% employee and 6% employer contribution
- Private Medical Insurance through Vitality Health
- Share ownership programme
- Cycle to work scheme
- Annual performance-related bonus
- Regular company events
- Employee Assistance Programme through Health Assured
