Care Home and Respite Facility
Flensburg in Germany has faced an ongoing shortage of short-term care accommodation, limiting options for patients requiring temporary support following hospital treatment or for families needing respite care.
Local authorities identified a pressing need for additional capacity that would increase the availability of short-term care places in the region, reduce patient transfers to facilities outside Flensburg, support local hospitals and provide relief for family caregivers as well as attract and retain future healthcare professionals
A care facility was built on a 4,000m² site that included the development of accommodation for up to 40 nursing trainees and nursing science students, helping address workforce challenges by providing affordable housing close to training and employment opportunities.
To support the project’s environmental ambitions, a 70.31kWp rooftop solar installation was specified across the two new buildings, this comprised of 158 x PV16-445-M10 AG roof integrated solar panels.
The Clearline fusion roof integrated system delivers a clean architectural finish while helping the development reduce its reliance on grid electricity and lower long-term operating costs.
The project brought together several experienced regional partners that included Dachtechnik Andritter GmbH, Bredstedt, team Baucenter GmbH & Co KG, team solar energie GmbH.
The new facility will make a significant contribution to care provision across Flensburg and Schleswig-Holstein. By combining high-quality residential care with sustainable energy generation and workforce accommodation, the project provides a model for future care developments across Schleswig-Holstein.
