Unique Third Party Assessment Enables Housebuilders to Meet New NHBC Technical Requirements
Viridian Solar is pleased to announce that it has been awarded BBA Agrément Certification for its Clearline fusion roof integrated solar system. Housebuilders can now uniquely specify Clearline fusion in confidence that the entire roof-integrated solar system has been demonstrated to satisfy the NHBC Technical Requirements and those of other warranty providers such as LABC Warranty.
In anticipation of a significant increase in the use of solar PV to meet new building regulations, the NHBC, a provider of insurance and warranties to buyers of new homes, announced more stringent requirements for the 2024 update to its Technical Standards. The new standards now include a requirement when using roof-integrated solar panels to demonstrate that the system meets an acceptable level of durability, and that this life expecancy should be confirmed by an independent technical approvals authority.
To support housebuilding customers as the new requirements come into effect, and allow the continuing compliant use of roof-integrated solar, Viridian Solar worked with the British Board of Agrément to provide independent third party certification that included an assessment of the durability of the complete system including the solar panel, fixings and flashings.
KT Tan, Chief Technical Officer at Viridian Solar said of the certification:
“Since roof-integrated solar systems are classified as products that perform critical functions in the building such as fire resistance and weatherproofing, they must now meet stringent NHBC requirements on durability and structural lifetime. Since the Microgeneration Certification Scheme does not currently assess the durability of roof integrated solar as part of an MCS012 certification we approached the BBA and are delighted to announce that the certification confirms the lifetime of the product is equivalent to the roof structure to which it is attached and that all the relevant clauses in the NHBC Technical Standards are met by the product.”
Jamie Berryman, Chief Sales Officer at Viridian Solar added:
“This is another first for Viridian Solar, keeping our customers ahead of the game. The third party, independent assessment by the British Board of Agrément is currently the only one of its kind in the solar market and critically, since Viridian Solar provides a complete system including the solar panel, mounting and flashings, the assessment applies to the entire roof integrated solar system as installed with no grey areas.”
